Posted Jun 18, 2008 by Admin.

The Geneva Press Club - Club suisse de la Presse, has the pleasure to invite the international, the Swiss press and its members to a press conference on the topic

“OGADEN: THE DIRE HUMAN RIGHTS AND HUMANITARIAN SITUATION AND THE ROLE OF THE UNITED NATIONS.”

Speakers:

Mr. Abdulkader Sulub Abdi
International Coordinator, Ogaden Human Rights Committee (OHRC)

Ms. Fowsia Abdulkadir
Chairperson Ogaden Human Rights Committee/ Canada (OHRC)

Wednesday Thursday 26 June 2008 at 11.30 a.m.

« La Pastorale » Route de Ferney 106, Genève

In the Ogaden, summary executions, torture of detainees to death, gang raping of women, child molestation, arbitrary detentions without charges or trial, looting and illegal confiscation of property are commonplace, and are daily practiced by the Ethiopian army and security forces with impunity.

The Ogaden region is off-limits to international humanitarian and human rights organisations as well as international press. The Ethiopian government has imposed on the region a complete media blackout to cover up the atrocities, which are being committed on daily basis by its military against defenceless civilians.

The press meeting will be followed by a drink.
I look forward to seeing you at this occasion.
